Rock wool is the most widely used thermal insulation material in the cold storage of voyage ships. Its main raw material is basalt, which is a kind of fiber made by high-speed centrifugation after melting at high temperature, evenly adding adhesive, silicone oil and dust oil. Rock wool is usually made into rock wool felts, strips, tubes, plates, etc., which are widely used in ship’s cold storage, lightweight walls, roofs, ceilings, floating floors, accommodation units, etc. Since rock wool thermal property is stable, sound absorption, efficient cost is relativly low, so rock wool material and glass wool material are often used for ship insulation.
Glass wool can be made into products with the smallest bulk density among inorganic thermal insulation materials. Except good thermal performance, glass wool has another advantange, that is light in weight. When we ship them to foreign countries, we usually pack them well, especially glass wool rolls, we shrink the rolls and it can contain many rolls into containers since it is light weight and small volumn. Glass wool is generally used to bulkheads, doors and windows, and other places that require fire protection, thermal insulation.
Ceramic wool is used for thermal pipelines with high temperature on ships and cabin insulation materials with strict requirements on fire resistance. At present, the fire-proof insulation materials used on various ships at home and abroad are mainly ceramic wool.
Calcium silicate products are made of siliceous materials and calcareous materials as the main raw materials. There are two main types of products used on ships: one is calcium silicate board with high bulk density (720-910kg/m3), which has high mechanical strength and compressive strength, easy to process and cut, and can be used as a wall for refractory separation plates, linings and ceilings, and the other one is lightweight thermal insulation material with a bulk density of about 150 kg/m3 and a thermal conductivity of about 0.04 W/m·K, which is used for pipeline insulation of ships.
